Arcus was chosen as Employers Agent to demolish Cherry Tree Court on Kiwi Street in Salford. This building was a panellised concrete tower block and needed to be taken down due to worries about the construction type. During the building’s decant and demolition, Arcus received an instruction to assist with the design and planning application for the provision of a new building on the same site and were appointed as Architects, Principal Designer and Employer’s Agent for the new build high rise scheme.

The scheme aimed to construct a single block containing 63 apartments, ranging from 5 to 8 stories in height, to better fit the overall layout of the plot and to incorporate Clementine Court, a small development of 8 apartments situated off the original Cherry Tree Car Park, ensuring its seamless integration into the entire scheme.

Health and safety standards were consistently maintained at a high level throughout the project. Regular inspections were carried out by the contractor, Caddick, along with Arcus’ Principal Designer and an independent CDMA. The construction process placed a significant emphasis on fire safety to meet the new Building Safety Act requirements which were incorporated during construction and to ensure compliance for the EWS1 form upon completion.

Thanks to the meticulous work of all parties, the scheme is due to complete to an exceptionally high standard in January 2024, providing much needed housing to the local area.
