Arcus were employed by the Stonewater Group to take forward an outline design to link two adjacent 1980’s sheltered housing schemes, Raglan Court and Limetree Court in Nottingham, to create a single modern assisted living project. Both the schemes were built at the same time and due to the nature of the bedsit type accommodation and limited common facilities, were not popular with the residents and required uplifting.
A new single-story link block was created between the existing buildings, which serves as the new main entrance and combines the two schemes into one. All the existing common areas were refurbished with the existing communal kitchens, laundries and lounges combined and relocated to the new build link block for ease of access for all the residents. 20 percent of the existing bedsits were converted into 2 bedroom self-contained flats. Externally the grounds were extensively landscaped to provide a peaceful and user-friendly outdoor space for the residents to enjoy. Abbey Lodge was a finalist in the International Design Excellence Awards.
We had major issues with the Contractor on this scheme but with Arcus’ professionalism, tenacity, and knowledge we got the product we wanted and everyone agrees it is fantastic! I have every faith in Arcus’ abilities and I am keen to work with the again.
