5K a Day in May

Nicola, from our Liverpool Office, is walking, cycling, swimming or running 5k every day throughout May to fundraise for the Alzheimer’s Society. We asked her a few questions about what motivated her to take on this challenge.

5k every day is an impressive goal! We’re now halfway through May, how have you found it so far?

It’s been an eye opener, at the beginning it was tough but, as the days have gone by, I have realised that I am actually enjoying being active every day and feel better for it.  I am hoping this will now become part of my routine.

What made you choose this as your fundraising challenge?

A local radio station is doing it for another charity and I thought it was a great idea.  I wanted to do something that required effort, and as I am guilty of exercising very sporadically, mainly at weekends, I thought this would be ideal.

Why is the work that the Alzheimer’s Society do important?

Where do I start, their work is incredibly important- their research in finding a cure, lobbying the government for better care services and quicker diagnosis, providing detailed information on what this disease entails and how it affects a person and their family.  The list goes on and on.  It is such a complex condition and the information and support they provide is invaluable.

If there was one key message you’d like to share, what would that be?

Dementia can affect anyone, young or old and the sooner a cure or preventative treatment can be found the better.
