Simon Totty from the Arcus’ office in Sheffield accepted the prestigious ‘ProHelp Firm of The Year’ award for Yorkshire and Humber at the regions ‘Awards for Excellence Gala Dinner’ held at Cedar Court Hotel, in Bradford.

The award recognises the contribution made by professional organisations, who provide local not-for-profit groups with free professional advice and assistance, through the ProHelp scheme. These groups are instrumental in the social and economic regeneration of their communities.

Jo Crossley, Regional Deputy Director of Business in the Community, comments, “Arcus are deserved winners of this award. They have shown such dedication and have given an incredible amount of pro bono time in support of worthy local community projects. The project for Wombwell Jump Hemingfield and Broomhill Community Partnership communicates good practice and demonstrates Arcus’ strong commitment to corporate responsibility.”

Wombwell Jump, Hemingfield and Broomhill Community Partnership in Barnsley is a charity established to focus on the relief of poverty and the advancement through education and training initiatives for local residents. Arcus initially carried out a full building survey of the Partnership’s community and training centre, before designing and preparing costs and drawings for both the refurbishment of the existing centre and the construction of an extension to the centre. This documentation will enable the Community Organisation to apply for funding to carry out the work proposed.

Julie Reynolds, Partner of Arcus comments, “The provision of advice and professional services to those who are most worthy, yet who are often least able to afford it, is at the very heart of our pro bono philosophy. We use our professional skills to ‘give something back’ to our local communities and we are extremely proud of our staff and team of pro bono champions, like Simon, who manage the pro bono activity within each of our regions.”

Business in the Community’s Awards for Excellence are the most prestigious UK awards recognising companies for integrating responsible business practice into their mainstream operations, resulting in positive impact in the environment and the community.
